Updates download but won't install

I have been having this problem for some time now and can not fix it. I
previously posted a question but have not received any suggestions that
solved the problem. I can download the updates but they fail to install. I
have tried every
suggestion from MS on the update page, including
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=304498. I have not uninstalled Office and
I am trying to avoid that if possible. Any suggestions?

What is the error message that you receive by verbatim when you try

All it reads is installation unsuccessful. I click finish and I get a list
of things to try to fix the problem. I have tried all and none work.

Alos, I forgot to mention. When I download the updates and it begins to
install, my A: drive (floppy) light comes on like it is looking for some
files or thinks that is the installation drive.

I am having the same problem attempting to update office 2000. I have
successfully downloaded 2 large files but I get an error message saying the
office 2000 SR-1 update did not complete successfuly. The error message
directs me to a log file which says the 2 downloaded files have "an invalid
size". I have tried the suggestions in article 304498 but I keep getting the
same error. Any suggestions?
