updates, having to have disc

Is there a way to use the update page for office without having to have your
installation disc there.

If I don't need a disc I put it away. It is aggravating to have to pull it
out everytime office has an update.
Microsoft doesn't do it for Windows XP. Why do they find it necessary to
have to have them for security updates that may take 1 or 2 minutes.

And yes I do have a Legal copy of Office XP, just ridiculous to have to dig
it out...

Hi Bruce,

For varying reasons the MS Installer may need the
original installation source for MS Office, not just
for updating, such as repairing or reinstalling
a file or patching into the original file.
If you copy the Office CD to your hard drive
and install from there you can use that as the source.
Office 2003 caches the CD files to the hard drive
so there is an option in that version to have the
CD requested fewer times.

When using the Office online update service when you
start the download the dialog should tell you if you
will need the CD and you can cancel out at that point
if it's not available.
