Updates to Office 2008

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

Updates suddenly stopped installing - both automatic and manually. I am told, "You cannot install Office 2008 12.1.9 Update (or any other) on this volume. A version of the software required to install this update was not found on this volume."

I went to Office Disc Utility and clicked verification. The verification said that there were problems with the database, so I clicked Rebuild, was told that Rebuild was successful, then verified again and was told again that there are problems with the database. I repeated this several times, always with the same result, i.e. I'm told hat Rebuild was successful, then I click Verify and am told that there are still "problems' with the database.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Also got problems with the 12.1.9 update: 1st issue is that it gives me the license agreement in Chinese (weird but not fatal), then get to the 'Select a Destination' window and no drives displayed, despite having Office 2008 on my main Macintosh HD.

Someone from MBU please help!

Thank you, Bill and Diane. I got the updates working by simply UNINSTALLING Office 2008, then reinstalling it. When I had tried reinstalling it without uninstalling the existing version first, it didn't fix the problem. I still don't understand it - I did not have a preview copy of Office 2008 in my computer, which could screw up the purchased version, but I guess the purchased version got corrupted and needed to be uninstalled, then reinstalled.
