Upgrade Advantage question (what products are covered?)

P

Pat

I've received some conflicting feedback on this, so I hope someone shed some
light on it.

Back in 02 we purchased Upgrade Advantage for MS Project and through it were
able to upgrade to Project Professional 2002 and Project Server 2002. We
were also told that UA entitled us to upgrade to any new releases that came
out during the 2 year enrollment period. We were told (or assumed, I'm not
sure which) that UA would cover both Project Pro and Server.

Well, I was talking to my reseller today, getting pricing for SA renewals,
and was told that UA only covered Project Pro, not Project Server. She said
we should have purchased a separate SA for Server. That was the first I had
heard that, and was a bit miffed. If we had known, we certainly would have.
But we were under the impression UA covered it all.

Does anyone know if this is correct? I'm guessing probably so, given how
confused everthing was back then. Unforatunately, it means we're going to
have to buy a new license if we want to upgrade to the 03 version.

Thanks for any clarification/confirmation on this.

Pat,

The first questionn that comes to my mind is to ask what is written on
the piece of paper which documents what you purchased?

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Hi Rob,

In the product description it just lists:

Project Win32 English UpgAdv OLP NL

I was assuming a lot of people had taken advantage of this (since it
represented a pretty good deal at the time) and would know what the
situation is.

I hope someone can help.

Thanks, -Pat

Pat,

Is there anything more in writing, anywhere, about this Open License
Programme purchase? In particular, the upgrade provisions? I'm not too
familiar with Microsoft Licesning and I know it's complicated. They
have web page on licensing that maybe you can visit. maybe you can
correlate this product name with more details of what it gives you.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

If you can help this person, then why don't you post the answer in the
newsgroup so that everyone can benefit? This newsgroup is a forum where we
all help one another publicly. I would suggest you start posting some real
answers instead of merely advertising your services.

When I clicked on the product key for "Project Win32 English UpgAdv OLP NL",
it lists the following "Product Groups":

Office 2003 Applications
Office XP Applications

with separate product key codes for each. Of couse, "Office 2003
Applications" could mean anything.

I'm surprised no one else has encounter this. Perhaps I should post again,
but on the server newsgroup.

Thanks for the help. -Pat

My take (based on seeing Microsoft marketing brochures, web sites,
etc.): Project Standard and Project Pro are part of "Office". Project
Server will not be.

Recommendation: Contact your local Microsoft office directly. Don't
think newsgroups will be of great help other than to give opinions and
*maybe* experience. best to just nail it by talking directly with the
company with whom you made the agreement.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Actually, contacting MS was the frist thing I did. The person I spoke with
said that UA would automatically license me for current versions of whatever
products it covered. I asked if that included Project Server in this case,
and they said yes. But when I asked my reseller (who checked with her MS
licensing rep) she said no, that the copy of PS I had receive had been
"complimentary".

I suspect the reseller is correct, but thought for sure others in the
newsgroup (with UA) and could confirm one or the other. Maybe I will try MS
again and try to get a reliable answer.

Thanks again for the help, -Pat
