I just purchased and installed Office Mac because my old Entourage crashed and burned.

Since installation (less than 2 weeks), my computer was running slower. In the past week, my computer froze 3 times when I was using Entourage, and today, when I opened and started to use Entourage, I had a FULL--blue screen--CRASH of the whole system! After 2 hours of problem-solving trial & error, I FINALLY got my G5 up & running.

I KNOW that the new software is causing the problem, because it is the ONLY installation since the trouble started.

Entourage is my favorite email app., but I can't deal with these crashes. I don't want to lose EVERYTHING!

What do I need to do to insure that Entourage is stable?

If the new software is causing your entire system to crash then your
system must have problems of its own.

First, what is a "FULL--blue screen--CRASH"? I would expect this on
Windows but when Mac OS X crashes the screen is not blue. What messages
are you seeing?

I suspect you may need to run Disk Utility and repair permissions and/or
your disk. I strongly suggest running a disk utility such as Alsoft's
DiskWarrior <http://www.alsoft.com>. It's a great product and can find
things many other utilities don't find.

Additionally, if you purchased AppleCare with your computer then you can
download and run TechTool Deluxe to check for hardware problems. You'll
find that here: <https://support.apple.com/techtooldeluxe/main?id=dl>.

Use the Activity Monitor to watch what's happening on your computer
while you're working. It's in /Applications/Utilities.

After you've begun work look at the System Memory. You'll see four
colors representing different parts of your memory. You want to see a
healthy chunk of green and blue combined listed in the pie chart. If the
pie chart is mostly consumed by red and yellow then you're running short
on RAM.

Be sure to select "All Processes" from the drop down menu at the top and
sort the list of processes by CPU so that the most CPU-intensive
applications are listed at the top. Is Entourage pegging your processor
or something else?

Finally, Spotlight does not play well with the Entourage Database. Go to
Apple menu --> System Preferences... --> Spotlight and add your
Microsoft User Data folder to its Privacy tab.

Hope this helps!

If everyone was having this kind of problem, then you would see nothing but
reports of this. Accept that it's something on your computer. It's really
hard to guess at where to tell you to start. My first suggestion is to
create a new User in System Preferences and open Entourage in a new
Identity. Add your account info. Set Entourage to leave messages on the
server. Test in this very base situation. Does Entourage crash? If yes, then
it's your base system files. If no, then it's your old User's folder.

Let me know what happens in the new User.
