Upgrade Entourage Only

I am using Office X for Mac, which includes Entourage 10.1.6. I have Entourage 2004 from an online Exchange Server service our company uses. Can I install Entourage 2004 only without having to upgrade the other Office applications (Word, etc.)? Thanks in advance.

Hi Blick!

That's a question for your Exchange Server administrator because it
depends on the server licensing your organization currently has. If your
Exchange Server version is Exchange Server 2003 then chances are good
that you're eligible to user Entourage 2004 legally. The Entourage
software would come with the server software.

Hope this helps!

Bill:

Thanks so much for your quick response. I have already cleared this with the administrator for the legal use. My question is whether or not there is a technical problem with upgrading only the entourage component of Office for Mac X without upgrading the other applications (Word, PP, Excel). Do you have an opinion on that?

Hmm... Legally that's OK.

Any of the background processes that run, such as the database daemon
and syncing are specific to Entourage and none of the other
applications. Things like Word X mail merges with contacts in Entourage
2004 may or may not work.

Technically, I don't see a reason why you couldn't do this. Maybe
someone else with experience actually doing this will chime in and let
us know his results.

I don't think this will work due to the shared framework files used by the
other office apps. If you only upgrade Entourage you will get framework
errors when launching the other apps I suspect. This is not something MS
would test or support and do not know about the licensing.

FWIW, it wasn't that way with mixing Office X and Entourage 2004. We use
hosted exchange which licenses us for Entourage 2004, and the machines that
only have Office X run it with no more problems than before installing
Entourage 04.

I'm hoping our host will provide Entourage 08 downloads soon....

Steve:

Thanks for your reply. Your understood my question. I am in the same exact boat as you described. We use a hosted exchange server and they provided me with Entourage 2004. Since I am using Office X I didn't know how well it would work. Thanks again for taking the time.

Hi cwilliams,

You have answered several really old posts today. It's best to leave old
posts closed. Some are so old they are not on the server any longer but only
available on the Mactopia interface.
