Upgrade for Office 2007

My xp machine crashed & I had to get a new one with Vista. My old machine had
Office Pro 2000. I was told that OP2000 would not work in Vista so I looked
for something that would. Our Office Max had Office Standard 2007 Upgrade on
sale & the box said it was upgradable from MS Works ver 6 - 10. I have MS
Works 8 on my new machine so I checked with the manufacturer. They assured me
the upgrade should work. Before I get into trouble & open the package, can
you tell me 1) if the upgrade will actually work, 2) is there anything
specific I need to do (other than uninstall the trial version of Home and
Student)

I have not activated the Office Home & Student but have opened & used the
various components. This version won't do it for me because I wanted Outlook.
Thank you for helping me out,

I don't have any personal experience with upgrading from Works 8 to Office
2007. According to Microsoft's own website, Works 8 is a qualifying product
for Office 2007 Standard upgrade. See:

Regarding the premise... Office Pro 2000 should work fine in Vista, except
for Outlook. For details on what works and doesn't work with respect to
Outlook 2000, take a look at the discussion here, paying special attention
to the quote from slipstick.com:

Thank you for the link. I guess I'll try the purchased upgrade (pretty good
price at $214) and from what I've read, I first need to uninstall the trial
version of office home and student that came on my computer, so I'll try
that. Since I know so little about Vista, I really don't want to have to try
to be a geek (which normally appeals to me ;) so if the Upgrade will work,
I'll go for it. The only component missing from my original Office Pro Suite
would be access which I never used anyway as it was too steep of a learning
curve after using the simple MS Works database.

Other than that and a few crashes using much older programs, Vista hasn't
been nearly as bad as I had heard. In fact there's some really nice things in
it. (Hope I don't end up eating my words)

Thanks a bunch, will let folks know how I've fared.

On balance, I've been pleased with Vista. It's not without gotchas and
annoyances, but the improvements, for me anyway, outweigh the gotchas.

I uninstalled the trial version & the activator that went with it (2
uninstall processes) & installed the Upgrade. It worked fine but I had lost
all of my email from the crash of my old computer (the tech must not have
migrated that Outlook information). I was however able to upload my contact &
older calendar info through my palm pilot after I spent some time online with
the palm tech - had to download install from internet.

One thing happened about 6 days after installing outlook, I couldn't send
anything but could receive. After spending time looking at all the
discussions about the same problem I contacted a microsoft tech via email &
after several screen shots sent the tech got back to me with the fix from my
isp, Comcast. I had to change my outgoing server port number - the tech found
the information on a Comcast page at
