Upgrade from 2004 to 2008 eliminated linksbetween contacts and existing messages

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Power PC
Email Client: Exchange

In Entourage 2004, my contacts were all automatically linked to all historical messages associated with that contact as sender or recipient (to, cc, or bcc). I could open a contact, and click the Link icon, and a search screen would appear that would populate with all messages related to that contact. I did not manually associate those links.

Since upgrading to 2008, when I open a contact and click the link button, the program no longer goes out and automatically searches for all items involving that contact, as it did in 2004. Now, it only provides me the choice to make manual links to existing or new items.

PLEASE HELP! Or do I need to revert to Entourage 2004?

Links are created as you send/receive messages and you must have the
preference selected to do this. Look under Entourage menu -->
Preferences --> General Preferences --> Address Book and enable the
options found there to link messages to contacts.

This will not link existing messages but only new ones you send or receive.

Hope this helps!

Bill,

Thank you, I knew that new items would link, but my question related to existing items. Your answer confirmed that it will NOT link to existing items, and there is no way to automate the creation of those links. I'm screwed!

I want to say that I've seen someone post information about an
AppleScript that will rebuild links but I can't find any information.

Possibly someone else will be able to refer to it.

I noticed with 2008 that if you select an email and select Message-
Apply Rule->All Rules, it links to the sender of the email. You might
try just selecting all, and applying rules. The disadvantage is that
it may move some emails if you have rules that do that.
