Upgrade from 2004 to 2008 problem

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: intel

I installed the Office:mac 2008 upgrade for the 2004 I was using. Everything installed just fine. I went to open Word and the Microsoft Office Setup Assistant keeps coming up wanting to enter the product code again. Obviously, I enter it and there is no eligible upgrade because it is already upgraded!! Anyone know how to fix this?
