upgrade from mac office 2004 to mac office 2008

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I have mac office 2004 which I bought in 2007. Am I eligible to upgrade to 2008 version. as I unable to download updates for 2004 version, as it shows that i.e update 11.5.0 it could not find the right application to update. please help.

It could be you don't have the required version for that update.

Tell me what version the Microsoft Component Plugin is in your Office 2004
folder.

/Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Office/Microsoft Component Plugin"

This will tell us what version you have installed. These are all the updates
for Office 2004:

Newest on top

Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac 11.5.3 Update released December 9, 2008, 15.1
mb. Requires 11.5.2 be installed... contains updated time zone information.

Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac 11.5.2 Update released: October 14, 2008 13mb.
Requires 11.5.1 be installed....contains a critical security update for
Excel.

Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac 11.5.1 Update released: Tuesday, August 12,
2008 15mb. Requires 11.5.0 be installed.

Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac 11.5.0 Update released June 24, 2008 (This is
a combo updater. This update includes all the improvements that were

If you don't need Exchange support you can get Office 2008 very reasonably.

Its version is 11.5.3(081111). I have still the question that can there any option via that I can upgrade to 2008 version????

If you don't need Exchange support you can get Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac
Home & Student Edition very reasonably. $111.99. It comes with 3 keys.

As far as benefits, Entourage has the most improvements. Just for Spotlight
search alone it's worth the upgrade. If you use VBA you don't want to
upgrade. If you don't know what VBA is, then you don't need it.

Office 2004 reaches "end of life" status in the coming months (10/13/2009).
What this means is that security updates and other file updates for holidays
etc will not be available.

If you tell us what you use Office applications for, then we can better
advise. However, you can have the best of both worlds, you can run both
Office 2004 and Office 2008 at the same time. I don't advise doing this with
Entourage because managing your mail would be a nightmare.
