Upgrade from Visio 2000 Professional to Visio 2007 Standard

This upgrade path is specifically not identified by Microsoft for the Visio
2007 Standard Upgrade version, although 2000 Professional AND 2000 Standard
are identified for the Vision 2007 Professional Upgrade. This does not make
sense, but by omission is it true that I cannot upgrade my 2000 Prof to 2007
Standard?

As Standard is about 1/3 of the price of Professional it's probably
less than the upgrade price.

Sorry Paul, but your answer doesn't really answer my question and I knew the
costs--see below:

2007 Standard: $259.95 (full) / $129.95 (upgrade)
2007 Professional: $559.95 (full) / $129.95 (upgrade)

Why pay so much more than you need to (so buy the upgrade) or for
capabilities that you don't need (in professional). Honestly, I cannot
afford $260 and the $130 upgrade, with some discounts I get at OfficeMax
makes it affordable. My issue is more of a technical one. Has Microsoft
(for price or other technical ressons unknown to me) closed the upgrade path
from 2000 Professional to 2007 Standard using the 2007 Upgrade version? My
investment in 2000 Professional should buy me the upgrade path to 2007
Standard, wouldn't you think!

Keep in mind that 2000 Professional is 3 revisions ago and the technical
capabilities must be like back in the dark ages compared to 2007. In my
particular case, I haven't installed or used Visio since I got a new computer
almost 2 years ago. Now I have a need and this seemed to be the lowest cost
approach to getting an up to date product with improved useabaility since I
still have the software CD.

So, is it technically possible or if I try to upgrade my 2000 Professional
with 2007 Standard, has Microsoft closed that door and won't allow it?

Depends on your version of Visio 2000. Microsoft Visio 2000 is the oldest
version that qualifies for an upgrade to Visio 2007 (Std or Pro). If you
have the preMicrosoft version of Visio 2000, you are out of luck. I'm not an
expert on licensing, but my understanding is that either Std or Pro Visio
2000 can be used to obtain the upgrade and the upgrade can be for Std or Pro
Visio 2007.
I'm not sure why you would want to upgrade from Pro to Std when the upgrade
price is the same for Pro to Pro.

Sorry John, I listed wrong price for 2007 Pro Upgrade--it is $349.95 (over
$200 higher). That should be a pretty good reason. Thanks.

I have Visio Professional SR-1 on CD. What you said is exactly what I would
expect (re upgrades), but Microsoft specifically does NOT list 2000
Professional as one of the upgrade options. That causes me pause that
something is up here and I don't need to be reading screens that pop up
during install that say you cannot upgrade this product with this version.
Is there anyone who can speak with authority on this issue? Microsoft has so
insolated themselves for us.

PEACE! Mike

I can fully understand the reason for not listing the 2000 Pro as an
upgrade route to a 2007 Standard.
a. as you found 2007 Standard is cheaper than the Pro upgrade
b. going from Pro to Standard you lose facilities, definitely a
downgrade. I think there is probably enough support problems with
purchasers finding out about features that get silently dropped
between versions (incroyable!), let alone those who buy an upgrade to
the latest Standard and then find out they should have bought Pro.
