upgrade from XP Home to XP Professional

rubytuesday

Hi,

We bought a PC with XP Home preinstalled. We now wish to "upgrade" to Professional as MS Works is not suitable for us. Do we have to buy a "full" program or is there an upgrade?

Any advice will be gratefully received,

Regards

Windows XP Professional does not have anything to do with Works.
If you have works preinstalled on your PC| it will not be changed by doing
an Upgrade to Windows XP Professional.
Are you actually not considering upgrading to Office 2003 Professional to
replace Works ?

If you are talking about upgrading from MS Works to Office 2003, here are
the upgrade pricing requirements:

Upgrade Eligibility
Determine whether your current version of Microsoft Office qualifies you for
the upgrade price. The following products qualify:

. Microsoft Office XP
Office XP Developer, Office XP Professional with FrontPage®, Office XP
Professional Special Edition, Office XP Professional with Publisher, Office
XP Professional, Office XP Small Business Edition, Office XP Standard

. Microsoft Office 2000
Office 2000 Developer, Office 2000 Premium, Office 2000 Professional,
Office 2000 Small Business Edition, Office 2000 Standard

. Microsoft Office 97
Office 97 Professional, Office 97 Small Business Edition (version 2),
Office 97 Small Business Edition (version 1), Office 97 Standard

. Microsoft Works
Works Suite 20061, Works Suite 2004, Works Suite 2003, Works Suite
2002, Works Suite 2001, Works 2000, Works 8.0, Works 7.0, Works 6.0

1 Planned versions of Microsoft Works (up to Works 8.0) and Microsoft Works
Suite (up to Suite 2006) will qualify customers for the upgrade versions of
Office 2003 Editions.

Notes

. Office 95 doesn't qualify for the version upgrade price of Office
2003 Editions.

. If you acquired a version of Office XP between August 15, 2003 and
November 30, 2003, you may be eligible for a free upgrade to Office 2003
Editions.

Your question isn't clear, are you wishing to upgrade to Windows XP Pro
in order to get something better than MS Works? You will be
disappointed since neither Works nor Office is part of Windows XP (Home
or Pro). XP Pro has very little added functionality over Home.

If your goal is to upgrade MS Works then what you'll need to buy is a
version of MS Office (XP or 2003) - you don't need an expensive and
unnecessary upgrade for XP (the operating system).

Hi Mike

thank you for your prompt reply. You are quite correct in establishing what I meant - not an expert (yet

I do want to upgrade from Works to Office as I work from home quite a bit these days and some of the spreadsheets I bring home from my work do not open in Works. Also, I like the Calender with Outlook. As Works already has Word as part of the package along with Outlook Express, do I need to buy the full version of MS Office or is there an upgrade

Thank you
