Hello, I purchased a new laptop from HP which had a Microsoft Office 2007
Home and Student TRIAL version already on it. I went to purchase the full
version of the MS office, but was told I would only need the "upgrade" not
the 'full version'. Which is it???

You would need a "Full Retail Version" of Office 2007.

How to convert a trial version of a 2007 Office
suite or program to a full retail perpetual license version:

How to buy the 2007 Microsoft Office suites:

And ignore Carey's link to MS for purchase - go to Amazon or NewEgg. You'll
get it considerably cheaper.
