Upgrade or update?

Hi, I've been trying to open a PowerPoint file sent to me but I get a message telling me to download an Office 2004 update 11.5.0 & 11.5.1

I have downloaded these but they won't update my applications. Is this because Office X is too old - do I need to "Upgrade" or "Update" what I have?

Many thanks

Hi chrispy1,

you are most likely dealing with the new Office Open XML file format
generated by a newer version of Office (2007 or 2008). Office 2004, if
properly updated, can read these files. The updates referred to in your post
(11.5.0 & 11.5.1) all apply to Office 2004; the latest update for Office v.X
is 10.1.9.

However, if it really is a new PowerPoint file (.pptx), you can download the
standalone converter called Open XML File Format Converter for Mac. You can
download it by following this link:

991851/OpenXMLConverter102.dmg>

or

Once it is downloaded, simply drag your file onto the program icon and try
to open the resulting file in your version of PowerPoint.

For God's sake don't upgrade! 2008 is an abomination! 2004 was better in
many ways, and the VB scripts still work in 2004. Don't do it, it's a step
down.
