upgrade problems... ARGH

It says Office XP qualifies as an upgrade:

Microsoft Works 6.0-10; Microsoft Works suite 2000-2006 or later; any
2000-2007 Microsoft Office program or suite; any Microsoft Office XP
suite.

I have Office XP. MS telephone support says Office XP does not
qualify. Office Max won't take back my opened software (Office 2007
upgrade). Now what?

I keep getting (when I attempt to upgrade): Setup can't find a
qualifying upgradable product....

I'm out $239 for the standard version. Any ideas?

Office XP **is** a qualifying product for Office 2007, unless you are
talking about the Student and Teacher Edition.
