Upgrade question - verify media?

Hello,
I'm just wondering about upgrading an older version of access to 07. There
are a couple computers I want to upgrade. Some came preinstalled and I have
no media (but a valid license key) and a couple others have retail versions
which I have key + media.

Does anyone know how the upgrade process works? Does it simply verify
install media (or existing installation) or does it use the key.

If it's just the media then I'd assume I can use one of my old disks to
upgrade all computers.
Before you ask, yes I'm buying an upgrade for each computer.

I believe upgrades look for the existence of a qualifying product on the
machine to which the upgrade is being installed.
