Upgrade requirements?

David Wagner

I know that the Microsoft Office 2004 upgrade requires a valid license for
Office X, or one of its components. I need to know whether I need the
original install CD to do the upgrade.

My problem is that I bought MS Word X for an elderly, computer-illiterate
friend. He has a valid license for Word X. However he has probably lost
the install CD. I want to buy him the upgrade, but I don't want to buy the
product from scratch again.

I buy Office for myself under a university site license, so I have no
experience with the upgrade.

Thanks in advance,
David Wagner

If his installation if valid, that should be sufficient. Make sure you
don't delete Word X, though, in case you ever have to reinstall Office
2004.

You can contact Microsoft Product Support to get a new CD, but you'll
have to provide proof of purchase.
