Upgrade to Version 11.5.2 issue

Hi,
I recently installed an update to Word 2004 taking me up to Version 11.5.2
But, now I can't open files I created in an earlier version of Word 2004. It basically closes down, asks me if I want to re-open, thentells me the XML file format converter isn't installed.
Is anyone aware of how this issue= can be resolved?
