Can someone give me the low-down on the subject of buying
the full version of Office SBE vs. the upgrade? We are
currently using XP with Office 97. Thanks for any info
you can pass my way!

The retail full and upgrade versions of Office are identical except that the
installation program for the upgrade version requires a qualifying product.

Office 97 {any edition} is a qualifying product for Office XP and Office
2003 {any edition}.

Melissa:
Besides cost, the only difference between Upgrade versus Full Retail
versions are in the install routine. The upgrade requires a qualifying
product (such as Office 97). During installation, the upgrade will search
your hard drive for qualifying product. If a qualifying product is
installed, the new version will install without interruption. If a
qualifying product isn't installed, the installation routine will prompt you
to put the CD of the qualifying product into the CD drive. After the
installation routine has verified that the CD is a qualifying product,
installation will continue.

Note: If you lose/have lost the Office 97 CDs and your current computer
dies, you WILL NOT be able to install the Upgrade version of Office on a
replacement computer, as you will not have the qualifying CD.
