Upgrade Works 2004 to Works 8 or Office -Advice?

Need advice on what to upgrade my Works Suite 2004 to. I recently
reinstalled it and in the process got a notification that support was about
to run out on this product. Not sure if that is correct or not, but I can
get Works 8 or Works 2006 (not sure which is the latest) on eBay or I could
go for the full Office 2007, but I really do not need anything that is
totally business-oriented as I'm retired and at home.
What would be the bext choice?

Are you happy with your current version? If so, I'd stick with it.

Lack of support for a product is not a big deal. It just means that
there won't be any further updates for it.

Yes I am happy with it and it even works fine in Vista. I'll live with it
as long as I can.

actually, you might qualify for a free upgrade to Works 8.5

checkout this site and you can try downloading Works 8.5. Suite 2004
qualifies for a "limited" time, but i think it might still work.

8.5 functions better on Vista than 7.0 and has some additional features
(like an offline dictionary). it is also more secure.

If you do go this route, also download the Works 8.5 printer patch which
address an issue with some HP printers on Vista.

Thanks - it appears I missed it. 30 Sep last year was the deadline unless
I'm reading it wrong. Mine is an OEM anyway, so I hardly think that they
are upgrade it for free.

Just one problem now..when I go to templates/letters & labels or envelops
I get a pop-up that the templates are either corrupted or missing. Before I
would just install again but as this is an upgrade which uninstalled the
previous version, what do I do?
