Is there a discount version (upgrade) for folks who bought the Office 2000
some years ago to entice them to upgrade to office 2007 or do you have to go
out and buy it new?

There are upgrade versions for which you qualify - I would personally look to amazon.com for the best prices as well as free shipping.

Yes, Office 2000 is a qualifying product for upgrade to most Office 2007
