Upgraded operating system, lost custom views

Hi,
I recently upgraded from Windows 98 to XP, and when I
reinstalled Outlook, I don't know how to get the custom
views I had created for my contacts. I spent a lot of
time setting them up! I have everything backed up, just
don't know how to get them or reapply them.

The views are in your original PST file. You need to use the same .pst file with Outlook that you were using before. My guess is that, instead, you exported, then imported. That procedure skips views.
