Upgraded to Access 2003 and cannot get into tables or macros anymore

M

Mike Whitney

I upgraded from Office 2000 to Office 2003. I have an
Access database that I send to a customer twice a week. I
have all the functionality locked out so he cannot get to
the tables etc. It will automatically open to the main
form. In Access 2000 I would hold down the "shift" key
when opening the database in order to get access to the
tables and macros. However in Access 2003 this
functionality seems to be gone. I cannot get into my
database now and unfortunately I have to import data daily
into it and cannot anymore.

Please let me know how to get back into the database.

Hi Mike,

The functionality still exists in Access 2003.

What you are probably seeing is the result of the new Security feature in
Microsoft Access.

- Download and install the latest version JET: How To: Obtain the Latest
Service Pack for the Microsoft Jet 4.0 Database Engine
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=239114

- Try opening the Northwind database holding down the shift key. Note that
the Switchboard loads

- Select the menu option Tools > Macro > Security and change the security
level to LOW
(note: if you don't see Security under Macro then click View > ToolBars >
Customize. Highlight menubar and click Reset. Then see if Security is
under Macro)

- Close Microsoft Access and then reopen it. Try again to bypass the
Startup Form in Northwind

The databases you are trying to bypass most likely do not have a Digital
Signature (see: Microsoft Access help on Digital Signatures). Either you
keep your Security level set to Low (NOT RECOMMENDED) or sign the databases
with a Digital Signature.

I hope this helps! If you have additional questions on this topic, please
respond back to this posting.
