Upgraded to XP but cant run Office 2K

I upgraded from Win 98SE (running Office 2K) to Win XP,
but Office 2K did not carry over, & I can not re-install
it via CD, I get "invalid patch" errors. I have tried
following KB article 295823, but my version of win
installer is now 2, versus 1. Looks like I need to
completely remove/reinstall Office 2K but can't. Any
ideas? Do I need to manually edit the registry to fix this?
