Upgrades to Office 2003 for new buyers of Office XP??

I

Inder Singh

Hi,

Haven't yet opened the package in which the Office XP
CDROMs have arrived in order to find out, first, whether
an upgrade path to Office 2003 is being offered for folks
who are buying the current version this close to the
release of Office 2003.

I'm inclined to return the shipment I've received for a
full refund, without opening or installing anything, and
just wait for the Office 2003 retail release to take
place in a few weeks (months?) Doesn't make sense to me
to pay twice within 3-4 months if a free upgrade path is
not being offered for new buyers of the package.

Any guidance or insight, anyone?

Many thanks,
Inder

Microsoft has not yet announced whether there will be a "Technology
Guarantee" for Office System 2003. It is entirely up to you if you want to
wait. There have been a number of reports (all rumors) that Microsoft will
be RTMing (going Gold) with Office System 2003 shortly. ONce that happens,
you should be able to read if there is going to be such a guarantee and what
period of time it covers.

Thanks, Milly.

I'm guessing that the term "Technology Guarantee" refers
to the potentially free upgrade path to Office 2003 for
RECENT purchasers of Office XP who have bought within a
certain time period, yet to be specified.

Please clarify if I misunderstood something.

From everything I'm reading/hearing, it sounds like a)
Office 2003 is very close to being released, and b)
absent an official position on an upgrade path for new
buyers like me, we're best off holding off on the
purchase of the Office suite unti this situation and
timing are clarified by Microsoft. I have a WordPerfect
suite that will see me through the few weeks it may take
to get clarity on MS 2003 from Microsoft, and am
personally perfectly happy to wait it out. Will send back
the package I've received, unopened, to the vendor for a
refund - unless an official pronouncement is already in
the works for next week.

Thanks,
Inder
