Upgrading from 2003 to 2007

We are thinking to upgrade our Project Server (and SharePoint) from 2003 to
2007 version.

We have a 3 servers configuration :
- Front-End server for WSS 2.0 and the SharePoint portal 2003
- Front-End server for Enterprise Project Server 2003
- Back-End server for both DBs.

Can i reply the same configuration ?
I know Project Server 2007 needs WSS 3.0, but I don't know if they must be
on the same machine or if, during upgrade process, I can link Project to WSS
3.0 on the Portal machine ?

In other words Can I install WSS 3.0 on the SharePoint server only or I
have to install it twice on SharePoint and Project Server machines ?

Thanks in advance for your help

You can't upgrade portal server 2003 to WSS 3.0, you'll have to upgrade to
Office Sharepoint Server.

When including Project Server 2007 in a MOSS farm, you have to install (and
license) it on each server. If you want/need a MOSS farm then I'd start of
with one server running WFE/Project Server App and the other running
Search/Indexing/other apps. Use a DNS alias for the WFE apps to help with
scaling out if required.

Depending on the number of users/projects etc, you may need a third server
to act as a WFE.

I'd also recommend 64bit for all servers and this provides more options for
scaling up.
