Upgrading from 97Pro on XP Pro OS

When I upgrade my Office 97Pro should I go to Office XP or Office 2003? Is
the Office 2003 the next generation up from Office XP?

Am I correct in that both have a repair file function?

If so, has anyone used them to recover Excel files? I have one or two that
crash Excel now that I use Office 97 on my XP Pro machine (and now on the
97Pro/WIN98SE machine). A "start of year" regiment that I've had no problem
with for the last few years didn't come out cleam. File won't open, program
hangs w/ no response.

The demo programs for Excel recovery software show the file intact after
working on it but if I'm going to spend $100+/- on that I would rather
upgrade my old Office software.

One more question about usage. Am I able to use it on my desktop and also
have it on my laptop when I'm on the road?

Thank you

Thanks for the link. I had fished around on their site before but couldn't
conclude much. This time I d/loaded the trial copy. It opened my corrupt
file right up - perfectly. Saved it back and my Office97P opens it fine
now.

I like the look & feel of the newer Office and will probably be on my way
to Fry's tomorrow to buy it for $179! (after MS rebate of 75). I think
that's a good deal and I don't need 60 days to decide.

For what it's worth - anyone else feel the pinch in the old
WIN98SE/Office97 world? Seems that with every patch something else doesn't
work right anymore. Only way I found around it was to (gasp!) buy the newer
versions. I don't mind upgrading or buying a newer version but I do like
being able to do it when I want/can, not when I have to because of "new
problems" that seem to be caused by a new "patch".
