Upgrading from Microsoft Works 9 to Microsoft Office Standard 2007

I have Works 9 installed on my system. I am trying to do the upgrade to
Office Standard 2007.

The installer says "Setup can't find a version of Microsoft Office on your
computer".

I have tried the Browse function to go to the Works program files on the
Local Disk C:. And I have tried to Browse to Drive E: where I have inserted
the Works install disk. Neither method works and I get the message "The path
you have chosen does not point at a qualifying upgrade product. Click 'Retry'
to try again or 'Cancel' to quit setup.

Would appreciate any advice on what I might be doing wrong.

Thanks

I have the same issue, I like the utility solution, however I do not have
the CD to insert after running the utility as my "works" software is part
of a bundle installed on my new Hp's hard drive. What can I do to get my
office Small Business upgrade to install?

Are you saying you don't have Works installed? Did you get recovery disks? When
the utility asks for the CD, can you browse to the bundle?

You can browse to the bundle but the Works updater is looking for the
original .msi file which is not on the computer. Is there any other way of
applying this update or any other way of updating Office?

Same situation for me. Works 9.0 OEM installed. Where on the recovery disks
does one find Works 9.0 or the bundle? If MicroSoft cannot point me to where
the files/programs are installed, they are guilty of false advertising on the
Office Suite upgrades packages sold. Can someone at MicroSoft expand the KB
message to include a step by step action list rather than letting us download
and hunt-and-peck? I've been at this for nearly 30 hours on what should be a
simple upgrade.

If you have an OEM, you need to ask your computer manufacturer where to
look. It's not Microsoft's issue because the various vendors may not do
things the same way.

SOLVED. Issues around upgrading Works 9 to Office Suites (including
Professional, Small Biz) still exist. Solved by spending $45 to purchase a
Works 9 package at local computer store. Downloaded patch from MS
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943290/en-us . Installed new Office Suite
effortlessly.

I had been running into 2 key problems with the MS "fix" download:
1) Insisted on having a physical disk for a .msi file. Didn't have because
Works was OEM and could not locate the file on recovery disks.
2) During upgrade, kept getting MS error message that Works 9 is an
ineligible program for the upgrade even though it clearly states that Works 9
is eligible on the Suite box!

2) As far as I'm aware if you had visited MS Update the patch for works
would have been available there
