Upgrading from office '03 student/teacher to office sm. bus. 2007

I'm having trouble with Outlook both before and after the upgrade. My machine
is running XP Home edition. I started with the MS Office student/teacher
edition. I purchased the small business 2007 upgrade. Outlook is locking up.
I was having problems with it before the upgrade, hence the upgrade.
Unfortunately I can't find my 2003 disk. I'm afraid if I remove all the
office software and start over, the upgrade won't find anything to work from.

Upgrading is the last thing you should do if your origonal has a problem.
Whilst you can run Office Diagnostics, if you cannot find your qualifying
media, your stuck if it transpires to be a more deepseated problem.
Have you tried opening outlook using the safe switch?

I tried to start outlook in safe mode. Is that the same thing? It didn't do
any good. I had someone suggest that I uninstall all of the office programs,
install a previous version from a friends original disk then use my upgrade.
What do you think?

Depends what problems you had prior to upgrade.
Is outlook the only module giving trouble?
Do you have integrated anti virus software? if so uninstall that AV, if
Norton or McAffee use the tool on their site for completely remove, reboot
PC.
Use the mail applet in the control panel to configure a new Outlook profile,
add a new data file & configure the accounts. and test - do not use copy
profile option

Yes, only the outlook is giving me problems. I am currently running AVG
Internet Security 3-pack. Would I need to uninstall the entire program? I
didn't see the 'copy profile option'. How do I avoid using it inadvertantly?
Also, will the old mail profile files show up in the applet? I've never
configured a mail profile manually.

Your help is greatly appreciated, Mike.

Uninstall AVG on the pc that has the problem and reboot prior to doing
anything else.
The mail applet will show current profiles just follow the prompts to create
a new & set it as default. You will need your mail account settings
