Upgrading Office Mac between different language versions

Hello,
I am an Italian Mac user and I have Office X Mac in English (the only one version of this MS suite for Mac not released in Italian language) on my iMac G4 with Panther 10.3.9.
Now, knowing that Panther don’t support Office Mac 2008, I would upgrade Office X English version to Office Mac 2004 Italian version.
Considering that it’s an upgrade and not an update, you think that it’s possible? Or, I must give up (for ever and ever…) to upgrade to Office Mac 2004 English version?

Many thanks in advance for the answers and/or explanations.
Ciao!

I just helped a German user with the same scenario as you. We were able to
get his Entourage X data over to Entourage 2008, but we had to do it
manually. The installer should work, but many Entourage X users are having
trouble importing with Setup Assistant or First Run using just English. At
least, we know you can get your data out of Entourage OK. He didn't use an
upgrade CD AFAIK. I sent emailed him to see what he used.

If your question is "will the upgrade CD in Italian work by finding an
English version of Office X", I believe the answer is yes. We are not MSFT
experts on licensing and for a qualified answer you will need to call MSFT
or wait to hear from a user that was able to use this upgrade path.

If you don't need Exchange, I would recommend just buying the Home & Student
version of Office 2008 that is much cheaper than an upgrade to Standard and
doesn't look for a previous version to upgrade. This makes any future
re-installs much easier as you won't have to keep your old CD installer
around for proof during the install process.
