Upgrading on a New Computer

D

Don Bouchard

I am a registered user of Office 2003 (with Outlook 2003). I recently bought
a new notebook computer with Vista and the Office Standard 2007 Upgrade.
Will I have to install Office 2003 before installing the Office 2007
Upgrade? Is there a way to install the upgrade version without installing
Office 2003?

Your question is not very clear. You said

If this is the case then why do you need to install the 2007 Upgrade

If you bought the Upgrade as a separate purchase then YES you can use the Upgrade

As you found out through, I assume, trial and error that you don't have to
install a previous version to use ANY Microsoft upgrade products. You only
have to insert the qualifying media into a drive when it asks for it to
verify ownership.

Do not throw or give away the 2003 version disk since if you ever need to
reinstall 2007 you will need the 2003 disk again and the 2003 disk is now
tied to the 2007 disk as its qualifier.
