Upgrading only Outlook from 2003 to 2007

I have Office 2003 installed on my business workstation. I also have the
Office 2007 DVD.

I'd like to upgrade only Outlook 2007 from the list of products. I don't
have enough time to learn how to use the ribbon and the new features of
Word, Excel, and PowerPoint at this time.

During the setup routine, I see that I can click on the selected components
to say "Don't install," but I am at a loss when in comes to which "extras"
are required or not.

Does anyone have a detailed list of what is - and isn't - required to do a
single product upgrade, specifically Outlook?

Thanks!

It depends why you want to upgrade Outlook only, as if you do so you wont
have full intergration with earlier components

I want to upgrade Outlook so that I can use the 2007 Business Contact
Manager and link it to Office Accounting 2008.

I'm not sure what you mean when you state I won't have full integration.

I had read that I can continue to use Word 2003 as my e-mail editor - and I
assume if I don't update the proofing tools, I'll still have the old
spell-check.

What else would not work?

Outlook 2007 can NOT use Word 2003 as email editor.

Uninstall Outlook 2003, by modifying your 2003 installation.
Install Office 2007 fully, do not use upgrade option, 2007 will be installed
in parallel with 2003.
2007 will become the default, you would probably need to create shortcuts to
your 2003 apps
2007 can save docs in the old format

Gordon,

Please back that statement up with a valid link and some text.

I found the following that indicates Word 2003 CAN be used with Outlook 2007
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HA102109301033.aspx

When Word is not installed on the same machine as Office Outlook 2007, or is
an earlier version of Word (Word 2003, Word 2002, Word 2000), some of the
rich editing capabilities and item manipulation functionality that rely on
Office Word 2007 are not available. The features detailed below will not be
present within the Office Fluent user interface. For more information about
the Word features described below, please review the Microsoft Office Word
2007 Product Guide

You posted your own link to the context.

If you read the white paper you will see that it states if Word earlier
version is installed, you will lose features of Outlook 2007 and Word 2007
intergration. (pages 10 - 11)

If Word is not installed at all, any version, Outlook 2007 uses its own Word
'stub', with results outlined as above

That's fine - I'm not looking for the new features of Office 2007, simply
Outlook.

And it is clear, at least from this document, that I should disable any of
the "extras" on the installation DVD - or it is going to mess up the
existing environment.

I'm going to run this in a VM to test it, because I don't want to
incapacitate my ability to use my regular workstation.

However, I would still like some verification of what you are saying.
Where's the link that confirms your statement?
