Upgrading to 2004 in MacBook Pro

I purchased my Office 2004 for use on my powerbook G4 as an upgrade to
Classic (actually OS8.6) software on my old tower. I brought across the
Classic files and part of the old system files so the installer would
spot them and install the new OSX compatible software. So in MacBook
Pro there is no Classic environment as I understand it. When I try to
install the Office 2004 upgrade, do I still need to import the oldie
files, and if so which files specifically are required for the
installer to be satisfied?

Other reports here have confirmed that you can use the drag-and-drop install
method, and just insert the Office 98 or 2001 CD when you are asked to
navigate to a new version, instead of installing anything from an older
version.

Do you still have the CDs?

As others have mentioned, all you need to do is the following.

1) Start your MacBook pro
2) Insert Office 2004 disc
3) Drag the Microsoft Office 2004 folder from CD window to your
Applications Folder. The Microsoft Office 2004 folder is the one below
the icon to run the installer.
4) When copy is complete, eject the Microsoft 2004 disc (you don't need
it any further in the installation)
5) If your copy of Office 2004 is an upgrade from earlier edition,
insert the CD from the original full edition into CD slot (e.g. put
OfficeVX disc in).
6) Open any MS Office 2004 application - this will trigger a series of
screens that will ask you for serial numbers and such like, and for
upgrades search your computer for suitable evidence of prior version
etc.
7) That's it...

In terms of migrating stuff, for everything except Entourage, the data
files will work as-is on the new installation. Not sure what mechanism
for migrating Entourage from one machine to the next is - but might be
as simple as just moving a folder over. Perhaps someone who knows can
advise?
