Upgrading to 2008, cannot transfer old identity

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

Installed 2008 on a MacBook Pro. Office Setup Assistant found two previous identities - the main identity, and a backup (from a previous database rebuild). I checked the box next to the main identity and selected to transfer it. However, nothing happens, and the setup assistant continues to ask me which identity I want to transfer. I tried checking the backup identity, also, and it transfers over (it turns gray on completion), but I cannot get the main identity to transfer.

What version of Entourage are you trying to import? Entourage X Identities
are difficult to import. Regardless of version, it sounds like your data is
too corrupt to import.

How to manually move your data. (when import fails and/or you need to move
to a new Identity same version or revert to an older version)

I am trying to import identities from 2004. The link you gave would be all well and good if it weren't for the fact that the previous version of Entourage is synching to an exchange. Exporting to an rge file will only export local data, not exchange data.

Sorry, clicked the wrong link. I went to the manual link first, which would not have worked.

In using the solution where you simply copy the identity, I find the error. It would seem the section of the drive on which the identity has written has bad sectors (Specifically the Main Identity/Database file - Finder gives a -36 error).

Trying to force a copy of the data using sudo in terminal....

If you only have Exchange messages, then simply create a new Identity in
Entourage 2008 and enter the account info and it will sync backup. If you
have info in the folders "On My Computer" you will need to export that data
as individual files.

The -36 error is really serious. You need to immediately backup all data.
Some data will refuse to even copy when it's written on bad blocks. Try
dragging over in individual folders. When you use an automatic backup it can
get stalled when it hits the corruption and doesn't get further data.

It's possible you can run a utility on the drive and map out the bad blocks,
but I would change it out or boot from an external drive.

Good luck with your recovery.
