Upgrading to Office 2003

I had someone at work stop me in the break room to ask me this home PC
question, ya, I was thrilled too. They are running Windows XP and currently
using the trial for 2007. They own a copy of Office 2003. They have tried
to install 2003 but it won't let them do this without having the files from
97 installed to upgrade. They can't find their 97 disc and wanted to know if
there was anyway to get 2003 installed without 97 or anyway around it?

Yes, they need to buy one of the qualifying softwares for the Upgrade
version of Office 2003. Office 97 was one, earlier versions of MS Works
also qualify. Make sure they PREDATE Office 2003.

Is there anyway to get the older files needed for that without her having to
find her old discs? Or anyway to just do a full install of 2003 from her
disc?

I don't know what the Upgrade version actually examines, but I suspect
that if you spent enough time and energy you could eventually get enough
pieces loaded to fool it. On the other hand this is a microsoft owned
newsgroup so you may want to look elsewhere for "cracks" if you wish to
take that route. The correct answer is to supply the install disc for
the qualifying software.

Nah I didn't want a crack or anything, just wondering if Microsoft may have
put out something where you wouldn't need your 97 disc anymore. Well I've
got her answer so thank you both for your help.

Nope, Microsoft didn't "relax the requirements". You're quite welcome,
and have a great gay.
