Upgrading to Office 2007

K

Katie

We would like to upgrade to Office 2007 at work but would first like to know
that our current databases will be compatable. We currently are using Office
2000 Pro and have a couple databases that we use in the Access program. Will
that database transfer to the 2007 version? Or will we have to set-up a new
database and somehow transfer all the information into it?

Also, for the Outlook program, will all the saved contacts and e-mails
transfer into the 2007 version. I really do not want to re-enter all the
contact information again!

Any help on these two questions would be greatly appreciated!

Answers to your two questions:

1. Yes, you should be able to continue to use your Access 2000 databases
without any changes. Depending on how it is built, there is a slight
possibility that some issues might arise, but so far I haven't had any
trouble with any of my Access 2000 databases working in Access 2007. You
should not have to convert them, unless you want to take advantage of the new
features included in the new ACCDB format.

2. Installing Outlook 2007 as an upgrade will not do anything to your
contacts and emails. All will be fine. I upgraded and all of my email,
contacts, and calendar items were fine. You might want to make a back up
just in case though. It is always good to do that. Just select the top
level of your Outlook and then go to FILE > EXPORT and select to FILE (.pst)
and export everything. Then you will have a backup in case anything fails
(although it isn't likely that anything will have a problem).
