Upgrading from Office X to Office 2004 will not result in loss of data. Your
Office applications are not upgraded. The installer will create a new folder
for Office 2008 applications. Your Entourage Identity will have to be
upgraded also.

See this page for help installing.

When you launch Entourage 2008 for the first time you have the option to
import your Entourage X Identity. This has proved problematic for many
Entourage X users. Do NOT delete Office X when you install. You will need to
be able to open Entourage X in order to manually move over your data.

How to manually move your data. (when import fails and/or you need to move
to a new Identity same version or revert to an older version)
