Upgrading to Office XP

D

Denise

I own a copy of Office 97 SBE that came with my
computer. The computer crashed and I have purchased a
new one that is running Office XP and the Office 97 SBE
was for Windows 98. I'd like to upgrade to Office XP
Standard but the requirements to upgrade is that you have
a previous version installed. The version that I have is
not able to be installed on using Window XP so what are
my options. I don't want to have to pay for a full
version when an upgrade would be possible if I could load
97 on this computer. Please let me know if there is a
way to get a key code for the Upgrade that will allow the
install when there is not a previous version loaded on my
computer.

Thanks... Denise

You do not need to have the product installed. During the setup, when
Office XP asks for verification of a previous qualifying version, put the
Office 97 CD in the drive, point the Office XP installer to it. ONce it is
verified, you can put back the Office XP CD and continue on.

Do NOT lose the Office 97 disks however. Once you use that product to
upgrade, it becomes a "part" of the Office XP package. Should you lose it,
you will void your license to use the XP upgrade.
