Upgrading to XP from 97 and want to save toolbars?

Jason

I was wondering if anyone could help me out with regards
to saving my toolbars in XP when upgrading from 97? My
tool bars are very extensive, and I would like to try and
save them, and restore them if I could, rather then
recreate them all over again.

Thanks in advance

First, I don't think Microsoft wants you to do this. I remember reading a post
by Jim Rech that said that during beta testing, it was decided that since there
are lots of new things added to tools|customize, that it would be bad to hide
them from the user by converting the toolbar.

I think I'd do a few print screens and recreate (and kill some and add others)
the toolbar.

But if you want to try it, look for *.xlb on your harddrive. If you have more
than one, find the "real" one. (maybe a slight change to the toolbar. Then
look for the most current date.)

Then save that somewhere.

Now make a dummy toolbar in xl2002. And close excel.

Look for that newly created *.xlb file. Copy your old version into that
folder. Delete the dummy version and rename the old version to the new name.

But I still wouldn't do it!

If I recall correctly, I tried to save xl95's toolbar when we upgraded to xl97.
The buttons looked perfect--but didn't do what they were supposed to do
(especially the borders).

(shhhh. I did keep mine from xl97 to xl2k, though <vbg>.)
