upgrading

My work Macbook was upgraded from MS office 2000 to 2004 and I get a
message each time I open either Word or PP (I don't use the others)
"an unexpected error occured while trying to load the Microsoft
Framework Library" I click OK and go on. I would like the message not
to be there. Is there anything I can do? Should Office 2000 have been
removed before installing 2004?
Thank you.

It might have been a cause.
That message often comes after a failed install. First thing to try is
to upgrade your Office 2004 all the way to 11.3.9 from wherever it is.
It might sneak back in. Visit mactopia.com for the upgrade dance.

If that fails, you might try a "remove office" orgy before
re-installing.

Hi Debbie:

No, that error simply means you have not yet applied the updates needed to
run on the later version of Mac OS.

Office 2004 was designed for OS 10.3. For later versions, go to the
Microsoft/Mac website and download the updaters 10.3.5 through to 10.3.9.

Run the updaters in the order they are numbered. That will fix it.

Cheers

Thanks again, So I'll update from 10.3.5 and go from there? If I've
already got that part updated what will happen? If I want to install
2004 in a different computer how do I avoid this from happening? Is
that ok to do?
appreciate your expertise in this stuff.

I just tried the 10.3.5 and it won't work "Installer cannot find the
correct version of software for this update" so I restarted and still
won't work. What do you think?

I'll not be able to try this again until next week as going out of
town for long weekend,
Cheers to you and thanks for the help.

Try applying the latest Apple combo updater for Tiger:

You might have to use "Remove Office" and reinstall Office then UPDATE!
After running the combo to get working again.

Running the combo updater from Apple overwrites potentially problem-causing
files. Combo updaters will install on the same version as they¹re
applying‹no need to roll back or do a clean install.

Mac OS X 10.4.10 Combo Update (PPC)

Hmmm....

That error normally has one of two causes:

1) It's the wrong installer (you're trying to apply an Office 2004 update
to Office X, or vice-versa)

2) You've forgotten to remove the Test Drive from a new machine before
installing the paid-for version.

The test-drive is toxic, and I have no idea why Microsoft WILL NOT fix this:
but if it is on your machine already when Office 2004 is installed, it
prevents Office 2004 from working right.

Run the Remove Office tool to get rid of it...
