Uploading files through Word?

Mike Jason

Is it possible to save a Word document as a .html file and upload it to
a webserver through Word using the WebDav file transfer protocol? I
could not find a way to do this in Word 2004. I was able to save it as
..html though.

Thanks.

No, I've never heard of Word having file upload capabilities.

You are aware that Word makes horribly messy HTML with a lot of extra junk
in it, right? It's really a pretty bad web tool, as its HTML is designed to
let you change it back to a regular Word doc.

Will an FTP client do you? (I'm not really sure what WebDav is). Two free
ones are Fugu and Cyberduck.

The free TextWrangler, which is a text editor, does have file upload built
in, but then I think you would have to know some HTML to create web pages in
it. And of course the web design programs (Dreamweaver, GoLive, etc) have
it built in.

Hi Daiya,

MS Word for Windows allows you to upload a page to a server after being
converted to a .html file. WebDav is another protocol to trasnfer files,
same idea as FTP. I know that Word creates ugly HTML. We are looking
into this in the context of a school.

Thanks.

Well, who knew. Haven't a clue, sorry. Perhaps someone else will come
along.

Hi,

If you can convince MacOS to mount a volume using WebDav protocol then
you're good as gold.

This is one of those situations where it helps when you own the OS and
the application. Microsoft Macintosh Word could write to the server if
MacOS could mount the volume.

I've tried using the GO menu to connect to server using FTP, but it
seems to only work for download, not upload. If you can come up with the
syntax for WebDav to work with the GO menu then you will have solved the
problem.

Actually, that's how the MacOS mounts iDisks, so it does know how...

No, but to my knowledge, no application in Microsoft Office:Mac supports
WebDAV.

Sorry: I understand that we are waiting for an update from Apple to add the
functionality. I think it was expected in OS X.3, but it seems to be
running late.

Cheers

Is the WebDav protocol owned by MS?

Entourage 2004's Exchange server features all support WebDAV (the big change
from Entourage X 10.1.4). But they certainly don't own it - they're somewhat
late to it.

Apple's iDisk features are all via WebDAV as well. I'm sure there's more
functionality coming though.
