uploading large files

Recently I have been trying to upload files using FP to publish. I have no
problems with files (zip, exe, etc) provided the file sizes are under 1MB.
When I try to upload files larger than 1MB the progress meter hardly moves
, it informs me that the web is updating and then a message comes up saying
server timed out, the whole process finishes.

I have tried by doing only the file uploading, and upload when other pages
where being uploaded, the result in the end is the same.

I have been told to forget about the FP extensions, write my forms and
search facilities and use a FTP program not FP.
But I would much prefer to remain using FrontPage.

If I load these files using an FTP program I am told it will corrupt the
FrontPage extensions, which I would prefer not to do.

Does anyone have a work around or is there some setting in FrontPage I need
to change. I am using FP2000.

Ask your host to increase the time out.

Whilst I am no expert, I do not think it is a time out issue, as other files
and pages load no problem and I can load a group of files that in total are
larger than just the single files over 1MB.

Perhaps I should clarify a point when its uploading a larger file it hardly
starts to load it when it then wants to update the web changes i.e. there is
no way the file has been transferred, then it come sup and says server timed
out.

Check with your ISP
( not your host unless they are the same )
and see if they have imposed limitations on
file upload size. If they have this could
be triggering the timeout.
Is see your e-mail is yahoo and I know
yahoo has a 1.5mb limit per file.

There have been many reports of any file over approx. 1Mb in size causing
the server to time out when publishing to or from a Windows 2000 system with
SP4, or when importing such a file into an open web.
The advice was to move the files, and only those large files, using FTP,
then open the destination web in FP and Tools -> Recalculate Hyperlinks.
Better still, if your host supports sub-webs, create a sub web on both local
and host, then move your large file into it. Use FTP to manage this subweb,
and never open it in FP again. If the extensions in the sub web become
corrupted, your main web will not be affected.
