Uploading PPTX or PPT

I have XP and Office 2007. Here's the problem:
1) I create a PPTX or PPT file

2) and try to upload it to my website (whether using WS FTP Pro or other FTP
programs).

3) Often, but not always, the upload hangs up and the file won't upload.

4) I can't email the file successfully either. The recipient is always
unable to open it.

The files appear to contain a bug, yet they open fine in Powerpoint. Anyone
else having this problem or know a workaround?

Note: you're in the Public.MAC.Office.PowerPoint group ... Here be Mac users.
You actually want Public.PowerPoint instead for Windows PPT questions.

Not sure why the upload would hang; if it's set to binary transfer, it
shouldn't matter at all that it's a PPT file. FTP treats one binary file like
another. There may be problems at the ISP end.

Re email, does the recipient have PowerPoint 2007? It uses a completely
different file format from earlier versions, which won't be able to open the
file unless they've installed the Compatibility Pack. You could, as a test,
try saving your files in PPT 97-2003 format. Older versions should be able to
open these.

At the receiving end, if they use Outlook, they may have to save the file to
their local HDD before they can open it; they probably won't be able to
doubleclick from within the email itself.
