Uploading Publisher to Web

S

Strange lady

I am trying to publish my web site but keep coming across the following
problem: ' The folder that this web page would use to organise supporting
files is already reserved for use in the current location. Please choose a
different name or location for this web page'
I am using Publisher 2007 and XP
Can anyone help me by suggesting a different location - I save in 'My
Network Places' or how can I change the name of the web pages. Could it be a
case of deleting some files?

Thanks

It sounds like you may be directing the upload to the wrong place on your
webhost servers. Go back and double check the directions provided by your
host as to where you should be directing the webfiles. Be sure to read the
directions and the FAQs on the host about uploading. However, if you have
successfully uploaded before, and this is happening when you try to update,
then it may be a permissions issue on your host, and you may need to change
that, or perhaps delete the index_files folder on the host before you
upload. It is hard to help trouble shoot an uploading problem...

How to trouble-shoot Publisher web upload issues :

Reference: Prepare, publish, and maintain your Publisher Web site:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/publisher/HA100947601033.aspx
It is written for Pub 2007, but if you are using IE7 instead of IE6, then
the directions for using Vista also would apply.

If you are using FTP uploading then consider downloading and installing the
free FTP client FileZilla:
http://filezilla-project.org/ It is likely to be easier for you in the long
run. Set the default Auto File Type.

Hopefully these references will help you sort it out.

I have both XP and Vista and I that find saving to "My Network Places" is
not the preferable thing to do for me. I save to a folder on my hard drive
where I can test the web pages, modify the code (centering pages) and then
using a split screen My Network Places on one and my saved location on the
other. Then I drag and drop the files to the web server. I do not use any
FTP software programs, I just use the built in windows functions. I do not
profess that this is the best way to do things, it is just another way to
skin the cat that works well for me.
