Urgent: Acess will not allow me to create a report

Well, here's my problem.

I just got a new computer, which came with acess. The program appeared to
be working fine. I went to create a report, and went through the whole
process with the wizard, and then when I finished the last step and all it
gave me a message that said the report could not be created.

I called Gateway, who I bought the computer from, and they said that Acess
was not their product so they could not help me. I should call Microsoft,
they said. MICROSOFT said that since they had not installed the product,
THEY could not help me. I should call Gateway (that's a stupid reason if
I've ever heard one, they PROGRAMMED the installer, they should know that
there's not really much Gateway could do to mess it up).

So, after a game of tech support volleyball, I decided to check and see if I
could find any support forums. Does anyone here know how I can solve this
problem?

Oh, btw, I'm running Acess 2003.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Did you install a default printer? Even if you think you did, go to your
Control Panel and Printers and re-select your default printer.

Um... I don't know if the default is installed or not. I cannot acess the
computer with acess on it right now, so I can't check. But does not having
the default printer installed cause acess to tell you it cannot create a
report?

Yep

Duane: Are you sure? My understanding is the difference
in CREATING and PRINTING the report. How could you create
a report on a laptop with no printer selected?

By default printer you mean for windows? Because I have that setup, I
checked and all.

Or do you mean for acess? I can find no place to set a default printer for
acess. I tried hitting print to see if it would bring up a window that asked
for the print information and all, but that didn't do anything (didn't start
printing, no error message, etc)

Okay, this is perplexing. I just messed around a little more, and noticed
that in my printer folder under the windows control panel there is also one
labeled as "Microsoft Office Document" and under that says "image writer"
Under the about section it says "Microsoft Office document image writer
driver." When I switch to this as my default printer (even though it is not
a printer, apparently, but a driver) it allows me to print preview and create
reports. I cannot do this with my physical printer set as the default. My
physical is an HP office jet K60 (this is the one which will not allow me to
print, print preview, or create reports). I cannot print with the driver,
but can do everything else.

Now, this sounds like a mistake in installation or something, where some
type of acess driver was installed in the printer folder instead of with the
actual printer itself. Do you know any way I can fix this?

I think you need to update your printer driver. You may need to search the
HP website for updated drivers.
