Hello, please help urgently if possible.
I'm constructing a 'timeline'-based diagram that is linked to an Excel
spreadsheet. About a week ago, - part way through the build, on starting
everything up one morning, Visio reported that "all shapes were linked to
rows that were removed from the data source."
Not so, as I am the only one with the data source - and both files are
local. No choice but to begin re-linking. As a result, I started creating
'incremental saves' and testing the refresh more regularly.
Three days ago, same thing happened. Finished working just prior to
midnight, numerous incremental saves, closed and opened and refreshed
everything to confirm things are as they should be. All perfect. Next
morning, start Visio, open the latest file and...aaaargh...all the links are
missing again. No problem I say to myself, I'll just drop back one version on
both files and start again. Double Aaaargh! All of the versions now have the
same problem...nothing is linked anymore. How can this be? Neither the Visio
or Excel files are touched once they are saved off.
I figure that the initial file must be corrupt in some way - so in an
attempt to avoid a repeat or troubles down the line for the customer ...I
start building from scratch again. Another 16 hour day (my deadline in in two
days), plus numerous incremental saves, plus confirmation that everything
works perfectly in the latest version (save, close, open, refresh + close,
reboot, open, refresh) and off to bed (again, just before midnight).
Yesterday, everything worked fine. I continued building, with incremental
saves to both files and finally got the product to a final draft state.
Before finishing for the day, I went through the save, close, open, refresh,
+ close, reboot, open routine again. Everything OK.
This morning all the links are dead again - in all incremental versions!!!!!
This is rediculous...I've hunted around all the usual places to see if
there's a known problem, fix, or even guidance, but to no avail.
I'm using Visio 2007 SP1 MSO on a HP XW4400 workstation running Vista
6.0.6001 SP1: by and large, a very stable environment.
The two files contain commercially sensitive information, so unfortunately,
I can't post them for diagnostics.
Microsoft/Anybody, please, please, please help.
