URGENT: Cannot open this Excel file on Mac

I cannot open an Excel file on a Mac (OS 10.3 & 4). I have a file called
"Test.xls". I have tried Office 2004 and Office X. Both are capable of
opening Excel 97 (PC) through Excel version 2004 (Mac). If I download the
Excel file on the Mac and then move it to a PC, I can open the Excel file. I
then saved the file in excel (I called it "Test_PC.xls") and moved it back to
the mac and it opens.

Can anyone tell me what is missing in the Test.xls file which caused it NOT
opening on a Mac?

If anyone is insterested to compare these 2 files, please let me know I can
send it to you by email.

Thank you!

WinXL02/03 have rather more advanced capacity for opening corrupted
files than XLv.X/04. That is likely the problem with the file.

I think it's unlikely that comparing the files would be very helpful.

If you don't have access to WinXL, I've found that OpenOffice is very
effective at opening files when XL can't.

OpenOffice could not open the file neither but OpenOffice J (Java) opened the
file ok. However, our clients here have Office X and 2004 only.
It froze Excel everytime we tried to open the file.

The file was originally rendered and exported by MS Reporting Services using
Web Services.

Thanks!
