URGENT: Projects not showing up when trying to open from MSProject

P

Paul Schaefer

Hi All,

I am a Project Manager and the PWA Admin for the PMO at my company. My boss is experiencing something that I do not know how to fix. Basically when he opens MS Project and tries to open a project, nothing is showing up in the open dialog box. He is the only person that is experiencing this. Is there a special permissions switch in Project? I have him as an ADMIN in PWA. It has been working fine for over a year, then nothing. We have over 80 projects on server.

Details:
We are running Project Pro 2003
Project Server SP2a
My boss is an ADMIN in PWA

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Things to check:

1. Are your boss' collaboration options set correctly? (I.e. the MSPS
server url is set and the "test connection" button completes
successfully.)
2. Try having your boss go the PWA, select a project from the projects
tab and then click the "Open" button to open the project in MSProject.

3. Also, check to make sure that he's using Project Pro, not standard
Project (which is crippled and can't connect to a Project Server.)

Let me know how it turns out!

Is your boss in any Project Web Access security Groups other than the
Administrators group? If so, in any of these other Groups, is the Open
Project permission set to Deny? If so, remove your boss from the offending
Group. Let us know if this helps.

Phil, Dale,

Latest info:

Groups: He belongs to the admin group only with full privy's.
Project Version: He is running 2003 pro with SP2. I actually uninstalled it,
and did a fresh install today with no success
Per Phil suggestion on opening up through PWA, that fails with a VBScript
error " The selected project caould not be opened in project"
Server: I validated that the URL is correct, and it actually goes through
the motions of connecting him.
Account reset. As mentioned above I did a new install of Project Pro. I also
deleted his account in PWA and re added it back with full ADMIN privy's just
to make sure.

One more nugget. We have a stage instance of Project Pro and PWA. When
logging into that server, he CAN open projects etc.

Thx for the support on this guys :)

You said your boss belongs to Admin Group only.

Check categories he is assinged to & user permission for his account.

Due to the complexity of PWA security model, I'd suggest the use of 'View
Effective Rights' add-on tool for Project Server 2003 from Microsoft.

It helps you analyze security permission & tells you which item denies or
allows user access to particular resources.

Try it.
