Urgent: Replace Local with Enterprise Resource with Actuals Report

H

Hameer Saleem

Hi All,

We had our project plan published on our EPM Server and actuals were being
reported against them. Later on arrived a need for removing the old plan and
publshing a new one. So a copy of the published plan was sent to the project
manager and was modified by him. Then we had the old plan removed from the
EPM Server. After that when we tried to upload the modified plan, project
server failed to recognize the enterprise resources already added for the
project and suggested to change the names of the resources and made them into
local ones and we did so.
Plan was successfully published. Now when we try to replace a local resource
to the old enterprise resource, it does not allow it, saying actuals have
been reported for the local resource.
Problem is we dont want to remove the actuals before replacing the resource
as the enterprise resource is the same who reported those actuals.

Please tell us what to do.

Based on your description, I suspect you uploaded the modified plan WITHOUT
using the Import Projects Wizard. If this is indeed the case, you erred.
If I were you, I would ask the Project Server administrator to delete the
project from the Project Server database and start over to bring it back
into the system. This time, start by clicking Tools - Enterprise Options -
Import Project to Enterprise. On the page dealing with resources, make
absolutely sure that you match each resource in the project with a
corresponding enterprise resource from the Enterprise Resource Pool. After
you successfully import the project back into the system, publish it
Collaborate - Publish - All Information. Then republish the assignments
using Collaborate - Publish - Republish Assignments, and in the Republish
Assignments dialog, select the "Overwrite actual work entered by resources"
option. This will reset everything back to the way it used to be. Hope
this helps.

Dear Howard,

Thanks for providing me with a detailed solution.
However, i did use projectserver imports wizard to upload the plan.
But since the old plan was already deleted (hence, their resources), project
server was unable to map the resources mentioned in the plan with the
enterprise resources and we had to make them local forcefully.

Can u come up with something in this scenario.

Regards,
Hameer

Deleting the old plan had nothing to do with mapping the resources in the
project. In the Import Projects Wizard, didn't you map the resources in the
project with resources in the Enterprise Resource Pool? That's where all
resources come from. I just don't get what you guys did. Have you tried
the steps I specified in my last post? Let us know.
