'usage reports

Hello:

I have access to the server log files. My website is hosted on remotely. I
can manually import the log files into a local MS Access database, which is
what I have been doing, or create a database application for that purpose.

My impression was that Microsoft Frontpage 2003 already has that ability
within the extensions, and they were readily available to the application
user to be used for site management. So how do I get at that resource? This
is fairly important because the primary reason for purchasing FP 2003 was
for the site maintenance suite contained within the application.

I want to use those features of the application either directly through the
toolbar, as they were intended, or programmatically. Any help would be
appreciated.

You must be hosted on a Windows IIS web server and your web host must have configured the extensions
to use the log files. Have you contacted your web host? You must also have your site open on the
live/remote server in FP to see the usage data, if allowed by your web host. You host may also offer
a 3rd party solution.

Choose View, Reports, Usage, Usage Summay.

If numbers come up, either clicked the hyperlinks or choose other options
under View, Reports, Usage.

If not, try choosing Tools, Server, Administration Home, Change usage
analysis settings, and make sure Usage Analysis is On. Note that if you have
to turn it on, you won't get numbers until the next Usage Analysis background
job runs, which may be days or weeks.

Past that, you'll need to contact your host. They may or may not be willing
to activate the feature. If not, they probably can provide some other usage
analysis tool that they like better.

Probably, but I have access to the log files, so theoretically I don't need
to make additional purchases.

They have IIS 6 and MSSQL 2005 Servers. I'm not sure how that happens, I'll
ask them.
Couldn't I do a remoted connection with MMC? Seems there should be a simpler
way to do this. Makes me wonder why, if they are offering FP extensions,
they don't turn on reporting by default. Oh yeah, the third party solution.
3 bucks a month / 2 companies. I would rather work 15 hours on a db app than
give in to being nickel and dimed. But that's just me.

What makes you think it is not turned on? You have already mentioned that
the site is logging visits.

Thanks Jim:

The ADmin page that came up was 2002 extensions. It did not have the usage
analysis block available. I'm wondering why not, but not important. It's not
there.

Guess I'm stuck using their UI. It's called Helm. I call it Hell.
Their stats server is down now. Sad, so sad.

I just changed hosts so I can use ASP2, VWD, SQL 2005 Express, and the
Studio Express packages.
Could never afford VS. I'm really enjoying this stuff though.

I'm tired of messing with this Kevin. Been trying all day to get stats.
Finally I got an unhandled error dialog and a whole page full of stuff that
redundantly explained that there were errors because the stat server was
down.

I'm just going to create my own UI with MS Access. That will end the fuss,
and I'll have the data in a usable database so I can translate it into
whatever I want. Probably will be able to use the application for years.

If you are hosted on a Win 2003 server you can not run usage reports from FP or the FP SE
Usage analysis uses OWSTimer which is not available in Windows 2003
You can only run the reports from the server using a command line
- which you can't do since it is a hosted server
